READING SKILLS for WEEK of April 4-8, 2011

  • I can recognize and name words that rhyme.

  • I can blend sounds to make words.

  • I can read a sentence and draw a picture about it.

 

Writing Learning Targets: “I can”

  • Write first and last name correctly
  • Write short simple sentences
  • Tell if a sentence is an asking (?), telling (.) or excited (!) sentence
  • Unscramble sentences so that they make sense

Phonemic Awareness

Sound out simple one syllable words (EXAMPLES:  cat, bed, not, pig, hut) 

Write words using developmental spelling

Recognize all lowercase letters

Produce sounds for all lowercase letters

Recognize capital letters

Produce sounds for capital letters

Read sight words, color words, and number words

Words your child will learn in Kindergarten.  Practice words out of order.  Each word should be recognized within 5 seconds.

Write lowercase letters correctly

Write capital letters correctly

Begin to use spacing between words

Print neatly (legibly)

Write simple sentences using capital letters and punctuation as needed
