Thanksgiving in May

In the 4 1/2 years that I have been Director of Schools in Lexington City, I stand firm in my belief that good things happen every day for our students. Good wishes and prayers are sent out and up for our Lexington City School families with serious illnesses, hospitalizations, and needs beyond their control; we laugh and cry and celebrate with and for our students; and no matter what a person's job description says, everyone works together from 6:00am till 6:00pm to make coming to school a clean, happy, safe, nutritious, and nurturing place to grow and learn. Teacher Appreciation Week is May 2-6 , and we will take the whole week to not just thank our terrific teachers but to thank all the personnel in our schools who work from 6:00am to 6:00pm on behalf of our students. Take some time to thank your child's teachers, the principals, the custodial and maintenance staffs, our support staff folks in the school front offices and classrooms, our school nutrition program ladies (they are the 6:00am group that gets everyone going in the morning), our nurses (who see almost 7000 students each year), counselors, student services personnel, librarians, school psychologist, and special assignment teachers in Encore, Activity, and Special Education. So we are designating Teacher Appreciation Week as "Everybody Appreciation Week" during May 2-6, and we invite you to join us to say thanks whenever and as often as you can.
