Federal funds are allocated to school systems to supplement existing system funding. Both Caywood Elementary School and Lexington Middle School operate as School Wide Title I Programs, therefore, funds are used across the board to benefit all of the children in our schools.
In addition, Lexington City Schools applied for and received grants to study and implement a model of Strategic Compensation for professional staff. IAF and TIF funds have been used to plan and implement S.T.R.I.V.E. (Successful Teacher Incentive Recognition for Valuing Excellence), Lexington City’s model for strategic compensation.
Lexington City uses its federal funding to implement initiatives that otherwise may not be funded. These initiatives provide valuable materials and services for our children, including:
-
All or part of the salaries for six employees including instructional coaches to work with teachers and students across the system, a reading coordinator, Quantitative and Qualitative Data Specialist, and administrative staff to focus on gap reduction
-
Professional development for staff
-
Instructional supplies for children
-
Extended school day activities to provide direct academic
intervention services to children in need
-
Parental engagement activities including support with the Henderson County, Lexington City Family Affair event
-
Education Initiatives for children identified as homeless
-
Funds to purchase education equipment in the amount of $67,626.00.
-
Pay increases and bonuses paid directly to teachers totaling $76,286.00 through S.T.R.I.V.E.
