Congratulations to the 5th grade students on their DARE graduation. We are very proud of you. It has truly been a great year!
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) was established to ensure that children continue to receive nutritious meals when school is not in session. Free meals, that meet Federal Nutrition guidelines, are provided to all children at approved SFSP sites. Sites are open to all 18 and under and to anyone disabled.
WLJT sponsored an essay contest for narrative writing for grades K-5. Essays were between 100-350 words and all stories included 5 original illustrations. Entries were judged according to creativity, plot, themes, story structure, literary devices, originality, and clarity of illustrations.
First and second place winners were chosen from each grade level. There were over 300 entries from students across west Tennessee. There were 12 winners and Caywood had the most with 4!

3rd Grade: Ethan Waddle won 1st place and Nolon Cook won 2nd place
4th Grade: Priyanshi Patel won 1st place and Jenna Odle won 2nd place
In third grade, the first place winner received a $50 Wal-Mart gift card and the second place winner took home a $25 Wal-Mart gift card. Both winners received a signed Sarge baseball card and admission to a Diamond Jaxx game, gift certificate to McDonald's, Star Wars book collection (novel, hardback color photography, graphic novel, etc.), day passes to Sky Zone, along with a video recording of their taped reading.
In fourth grade, winners received a year long pass to Discovery Parkin addition to the same prizes as the 3rd graders.
Student winners attended a breakfast, presentation of awards, and taping of their stories being read aloud on camera at the WLJT TV station on the Martin Campus on May 13. You can see and hear 2016 Essay Contest Winners on channel 11 WLJT during commercial breaks as they share their winning stories with all of West Tennessee.
